In Fall Quarter 2025 I took MIS 321: Systems Analysis and Design at Western Washington University. The course focused on how organizations analyze operational problems and design information systems that improve efficiency and decision making. One major project involved interviewing a local business to understand how their existing systems and technologies supported their daily operations. After learning about their processes, we analyzed the technologies being used and created system documentation including a context diagram and data flow diagrams to map how information moved through their system. In class we also learned how to design entity relationship diagrams and database schemas as part of the system development life cycle to prepare systems for implementation. One thing I particularly liked about the course was seeing how technology can directly solve real organizational problems rather than existing only as abstract tools. The project helped me realize how important clear communication is when working between technical teams and business stakeholders. In my future career I plan to apply these skills when analyzing business processes and designing technology solutions that improve efficiency while maintaining strong ethical and professional standards.

On July 3, 2023 I submitted a scholarship application to the Latino Community Fund of Washington. The application required writing several essays explaining my background, my educational goals, and the career path I hope to pursue after graduation. While preparing the application I spent time reflecting on how my personal experiences influenced my decision to pursue higher education. I carefully reviewed and revised my essays to make sure my ideas were organized clearly and communicated in a professional way. I liked that the process pushed me to step back and think about the bigger picture of my education and long-term goals. Writing the application strengthened my professional writing and self-reflection skills. It also helped me practice presenting my goals and experiences in a clear and professional format. In my future career I will use these communication skills when applying for opportunities and presenting my work to others.

Since Winter Quarter 2023 I have been a member of the Western Washington University Chess Club. The club meets regularly on campus where students play chess, discuss strategies, and challenge each other to competitive games. I joined because I have always enjoyed chess and wanted an activity that would challenge my strategic thinking outside of coursework. During games I frequently analyze multiple moves ahead and evaluate how my opponent might respond before making a decision. This experience helped me develop patience, focus, and the ability to think critically under pressure. I also enjoyed meeting students from different majors who shared a similar interest in strategy and problem solving. Participating in the club strengthened my analytical thinking and decision-making skills. In my future career I will apply the same strategic mindset when approaching complex business or technology challenges.

In Winter Quarter 2025 I took MGMT 311: Organizational Behavior at Western Washington University. The course explored how individuals behave in organizations and how leadership, communication, and workplace culture influence performance. During the class I participated in discussions and case studies that examined how teams operate in real workplace environments. One topic that stood out to me was how diversity of perspectives can improve decision making and problem solving. I enjoyed analyzing real scenarios where leadership styles and communication strategies influenced the outcome of team dynamics. These discussions helped me understand the importance of creating inclusive and collaborative work environments. The course strengthened my awareness of how workplace culture affects motivation and productivity. In my future career I plan to apply these lessons by encouraging collaboration, respecting diverse perspectives, and contributing to positive team environments.

On October 14, 2025 I attended the Día de los Muertos Ofrenda Reception hosted on campus at Western Washington University. The event included traditional ofrenda displays honoring loved ones who had passed away, decorated with candles, marigolds, photographs, and meaningful objects. As I walked through the displays I listened to organizers explain the cultural significance of the tradition and how it celebrates remembrance and heritage. Because I have Mexican heritage, attending the event felt personally meaningful and helped me connect with an important cultural tradition. I also enjoyed seeing students from many different backgrounds attending and learning about the celebration. Events like this help build awareness and appreciation for different cultures within the university community. I gained a deeper understanding of how cultural traditions bring communities together. In my future career I hope to carry that same respect and awareness when working with people from diverse backgrounds.

On March 6, 2025 I attended the Sip n Chill event hosted by SACNAS and the Japanese Student Association at Western Washington University. The event created a relaxed environment where students from different organizations could meet and talk with each other. During the event I spoke with several students about their majors, academic interests, and experiences at Western. These conversations allowed me to learn about perspectives and experiences that were different from my own. I appreciated how informal the setting was because it encouraged genuine conversations and connections. It helped me understand how diverse communities on campus contribute to a broader exchange of ideas. The experience strengthened my communication and interpersonal skills while interacting with people from different backgrounds. In my future career I hope to bring the same openness and respect for diverse viewpoints into the teams I work with.

On October 16, 2025 I attended the "Confidence at the Career Fair" speaker panel hosted by the College of Business and Economics at Western Washington University. During the panel several recruiters discussed how students should introduce themselves and communicate professionally during networking events. I listened to their advice about preparing a clear elevator pitch and asking thoughtful questions when speaking with employers. After the panel I participated in the networking portion and introduced myself to one of the recruiters to ask about skills employers value in candidates. I liked hearing real advice from professionals who regularly evaluate job applicants. The event helped me practice presenting myself confidently and discussing my academic and technical experiences. I gained stronger networking and professional communication skills from the interaction. In my future career I will apply these strategies when communicating with employers, coworkers, and professional contacts.

On October 23, 2025 I attended the "Working at Expedia" information session where company representatives discussed career opportunities in the travel technology industry. During the presentation they explained how different teams collaborate to develop technology solutions and improve customer experiences. I listened as they described the importance of communication when engineers, analysts, and business professionals work together on projects. After the presentation I spoke with one of the representatives about what skills help students succeed in technology-focused roles. I liked hearing about the career paths of professionals who work at a large technology company. The discussion helped me understand how communication skills support technical work in real business environments. I gained insight into how professionals translate technical ideas into clear explanations for decision makers. In my future career I will continue developing both technical and communication skills to work effectively on cross-functional teams.

On October 24, 2025 I attended the SMA Industry Panel and Reception hosted by the Sales and Marketing Association at Western Washington University. During the panel professionals discussed how communication and storytelling are important when presenting ideas to clients and colleagues. I listened to panelists explain how simplifying complex information helps audiences understand business strategies. After the panel I participated in the reception where I introduced myself to a few professionals and asked about their career paths. I enjoyed hearing how they developed their careers and built relationships with clients. The event gave me a chance to practice networking and professional conversation in a real setting. I strengthened my ability to communicate with professionals and ask thoughtful questions. In my future career I will apply these communication skills when presenting ideas and collaborating with colleagues.

On November 18, 2025 I attended a speaker event titled "Thriving in the AI Era: Skills for Today's Job Market." The panel included speakers such as Seth Bergeson, a management consultant at PwC who focuses on AI strategy and responsible AI, and Dana Rozier, the founder of Nova Consulting AI who helps businesses use tools like ChatGPT to improve productivity. During the discussion they explained how artificial intelligence and automation are rapidly changing many industries and the types of skills employers are beginning to value more. One point that stood out to me was how professionals often need to communicate complex technical systems to managers or stakeholders who may not have technical backgrounds. This resonated with me because I have worked on automation projects and understand how challenging it can be to explain what a system does and why it matters. I enjoyed hearing examples of how professionals adapt as technology continues to evolve. The talk reinforced the importance of communication and collaboration in technology-driven workplaces. In my future career I will continue developing both my technical and communication skills so I can clearly explain technology solutions and help organizations apply them effectively.

On May 29, 2024 I attended the CBE Leadership and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion panel discussion hosted by the College of Business and Economics. During the panel several professionals, including Liz Baxter, Chief Executive Officer of North South ACH, discussed their leadership experiences and how communication supports inclusive team environments. I listened to panelists describe how active listening and encouraging team participation leads to stronger decision making. Hearing their workplace examples helped me understand how communication and leadership are closely connected. I appreciated the opportunity to hear different leadership perspectives from experienced professionals. The discussion helped me reflect on how leaders create environments where employees feel comfortable sharing ideas. I developed a stronger understanding of how communication supports collaboration and teamwork. In my future career I hope to apply these lessons by being a thoughtful communicator who values diverse perspectives.

Between November 2 and December 14, 2025 I worked on an internship project developing a web application for LAZ Parking. The goal of the project was to create a tool that could help streamline certain operational processes within the organization. During the project I designed parts of the application structure and thought carefully about how employees would interact with the interface. I evaluated what information the system needed to capture and how it should be organized to support daily operations. I enjoyed working on a real project that could potentially be used in an actual business environment. The experience strengthened my problem-solving skills and helped me become more confident working independently on technical projects. I also learned how technical solutions support larger business processes. In my future career I hope to continue building systems and tools that improve organizational efficiency.

Since September 30, 2024 I have worked as an Administrative Assistant at LAZ Parking while attending Western Washington University full time. In this role I assist with organizing operational documents, maintaining records, and supporting communication between team members. Working in this position gave me a better understanding of how businesses manage daily operations and coordinate tasks across teams. I quickly realized how important organization and attention to detail are when managing business information. Balancing work with a full academic schedule also required strong time management and prioritization skills. I enjoyed gaining real workplace experience while continuing my education. This role helped me develop stronger communication, responsibility, and professional work habits. In my future career I will apply these skills when working in professional environments that require organization, teamwork, and accountability.

On November 25, 2023 I created and began actively using my LinkedIn account to build a professional online presence. After creating the account I spent time developing my profile by adding my education, work experience, and skills related to business and technology. I also connected with classmates, professors, and professionals in industries I am interested in. Exploring other professionals' profiles helped me learn about different career paths and understand what skills employers value. I enjoyed seeing how people present their accomplishments and experiences in a professional format. This helped me think more intentionally about how I communicate my own skills and experiences. Maintaining a LinkedIn profile helped strengthen my professional networking skills. In my future career I plan to continue using LinkedIn to build connections and stay informed about opportunities in my field.

On November 10, 2023 I created an account on Handshake through Western Washington University Career Services. Handshake is a platform that connects students with internships, job opportunities, and employer networking events. After signing up I explored different job postings and reviewed employer profiles to understand what skills companies are seeking. I also looked at internship opportunities related to business and technology fields. Using the platform helped me connect what I was learning in my courses with real career opportunities after graduation. I appreciated how easy it was to access job listings specifically targeted toward students and recent graduates. The platform encouraged me to begin thinking seriously about career preparation and professional opportunities. In the future I will continue using resources like Handshake to find internships, connect with employers, and develop my career path.
